We propose a technique of animation to represent quantitative data. We call a short animation played repeatedly a loop animation. We think that the frequency of cycles or the size of changes in loop animations can represent quantitative data.

Sample Videos

We implemented the function of loop animations on Iv Studio which is a development environment for information visualization systems. Then, we made some animated charts. These charts visualize data of cars.

Spin animtions

X positions represent fuel economy, Y positions represent horsepower. In addition, each cut circle spins. The frequency of the spins represents acceleration.

Vibrate animtions

X positions represent horsepower, Y positions represent weight, and colors of circles represent years. Additionally, each circle vibrates vertically. The amplitude of vibration represents displacement, and frequencies of vibration represent acceleration.
